Reflecting on Your Purpose
In a world filled with hardship, challenges, and uncertainty, it is easy to lose sight of one's purpose. Being called to be set apart, separate, but also connected in relationship, and reconciiliation, is both a profound privilege and a significant responsibility. Understanding this calling can help us to navigate our unique roles and maintain focus on our purpose as we work to bring the Gospel message to the world. Scripture reveals our divine mission and can inspire us to fulfill that mission in the midst of our trying circumstances. Through all of our trials, one profound truth stands out: God has a purpose for each of us.
Before you were born, Jeremiah 1:5 tells us that God’ had a purpose for us: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” Psalms 139;13 -16 tells us that God created us, "knit us together" in our mother's womb, say our unformed body, and ordained all of our days before one of them came to be. These verses reassure us that our existence is not a coincidence. God knew us and had a plan for us long before our first breath. Each of us is created with a specific purpose in mind, a role that only we can fulfill.
Our lives were designed to be a testament to God's handiwork. We are not just individuals navigating through life aimlessly. Ephesians 2:10 says: “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” We are called to engage in the good works that God has already prepared for us.
Paul exhorts us all to walk worthy of the vocation we are called to and that everyone of us is given Grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. In Ephesians 4, He goes on to say that some were called as apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers. We are all part of the same body of Christ, each one of us with a specific purpose. Discovering and embracing our unique calling requires discernment in seeking God’s guidance and being open to His leading.
Even when life feels uncertain or challenging, we can trust that God is working all things together for good. Our purpose is intertwined with His sovereign plan. Romans 8:28. In and through your unique calling or vocation, we are called to be light unto the world. (Matthew 5:14-16)
Action:
Take a moment to reflect on how you can align your daily life with the purpose God has for you. Consider specific ways you can shine His light and fulfill the good works prepared for you. Trust that your unique calling is part of His grand design, and embrace it with confidence and grace.
When you face challenges and uncertainties, remember God's promises, and His purpose. Embrace the good works and where you have experienced God's faithfulness.
