Am I Giving/Doing Enough ?

Russell Semon

In the book of Luke, Chapter 21, we read the story of the widow and giving her two mites -

vs 1 "As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. 2 He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. 3 "Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others.  4 All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”

Do you find yourself wondering if you are giving enough ? doing enough ? I know that sometimes the outcome, the fruit of our labor, isn't what we expect, and this may lead to our questioning ourselves, our actions / efforts. Are these questions a matter of our effort, our expectations, or our misplaced understanding of the source of our strength, the motivation for what we do ? The widow's faith, giving what she had to give and the knowledge that God can and will use even two mites can provide some comfort that it's not the amount, great or small, it's the heart, the faith of the giver. Knowing that He can use whatever we have to give and trusting that the outcome is in His hands, can give us some comfort, an answer to our question.

*Remember what was done with five loaves of bread and two fish.........fed five thousand ("men", not sure how many women and children ?) and there were twelve baskets left over ! (Isah. 40:29-31, Eph. 3:20, 1 Cor. 15:10)
